Pivoting to Positivity
I've discovered something rather remarkable. I am so powerful I can change the world just by breathing.
I know, I know. You think I'm crazy.
I'm breathing, we all breathe what's so special about breathing? How can it change the world?
No I've not touched a piece of kryptonite over the weekend, or ingested any dodgy substances at all.
However I have discovered that by focussing on the simple act of breathing, and taking a few intentional, deep breaths, it has helped me stay calm, refocused as required, and taken a different course of action than I would have done had I reacted in the moment.
It's Monday morning, the third Monday in January, dubbed 'Blue Monday' by the media as one of the most depressing days of the year.
I'm sitting in the reception of my car service garage, waiting for something to be fixed. They told me it would be a quick half a hour job. They tell me it's going to take longer than that. I'm still here two hours later.
I breathe. I take three deep breaths.
The anger, frustration, victim-led reaction disappears.
Instead: calm, possibility, space. I notice a coffee machine! A table to work at! I have my phone, a book and my journal with me. I have two uninterrupted hours to get on with anything I want to (albeit on a smaller screen and with potential neck ache if I'm not careful about my posture). I even have inspiration to write this blog post.
The day pivots to positivity and I notice how powerful my breath is, how powerful I am to take charge of my day, and by extension, the world around me.
The truth is: we all have that power within us. if you haven't already- try it and you'll be truly amazed by the results.
Happy Blue Monday one and all!
